Geometric impressionism is a series of artworks in digital painting style that uses simple geometric shapes to depict a scenery or figure.
Also called Minimalist impressionism, it is inspired by modernist art movements, such as cubism and minimalist painting.
Resulting artwork is similar in style to low poly 3D renders, but doesn’t involve any digital sculpting or modeling, making it more painterly.

It started in 2020 with artworks “15 Bliss” based on Windows XP wallpaper and “16 Desert Sands” based on music album by “desert sands feel warm at night”.
The first image drawn using original photo reference was “31 Side Mirror View”. That was the time when I was mostly experimenting with various geometric and minimalistic styles.

Most of the artworks at that time were abstract and usually simplistic, consisting of a few geometric shapes and lines. Gradually I started making more chaotic mixes of colors instead of geometric compositions. Artworks in geometric impressionism style became rarer among my releases.

“110 Minimalist Impressionism” was made using an autumn forest river image as a reference. Although there were quite a lot of artworks in this style before No. 110, it started a sort of a “naming convention” of the following entries in the series.

“260 Minimalist Impressionism 2” is one of the artworks that come in multiple color variants, such as an atmospheric evening variant with it’s ethereal purple, violet, red and blue colors.

Style development
To make a contemporary artwork, this ordinary figuration won’t be enough. There must be elements that would introduce variance and diversity.
I’m constantly looking for ways to combine different styles together, such as using these minimalistic polygonal-type drawn objects in artworks that are not purely geometric. This is one of two defining art styles of mine.
Examples of works produced in this combined technique include “567 Life Is Weirder Than Fiction” with its pixel art styled clouds, painterly water textures and additional gradients and elements. Another example is “698 Prospects” with its background made in a different, more expressionistic style.

I also experiment with other types of subjects. Newer paintings in the series can be more detailed and realistic, or the opposite – more simple, abstract and surreal.
